Advocacy
Commitment to building Inclusive Communities in Yukon
What is Advocacy and why is it needed?
Advocacy plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and rights of individuals with disabilities in the Yukon. As a marginalized group, people with intellectual and physical disabilities often face numerous barriers and challenges that hinder their participation in society. Advocacy efforts strive to promote inclusivity, accessibility, and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities, enabling them to live with dignity and independence. By raising awareness of systemic issues, advocating for policy changes, and providing support and resources, advocates actively work towards breaking down barriers and creating an inclusive society that values and empowers individuals with disabilities. Advocacy is vital in creating a more equitable Yukon, where people with disabilities have equal access to necessary services, employment opportunities, education, and recreation, ultimately fostering a stronger and more inclusive community.
How do we help?
Inclusion Yukon has an Advocate who can meet with you who can help refer you to resources, systems navigation in health care, housing or education. There are many systems of able-ism that can cause barriers for people who are neurodiverse and our role in advocacy is to support you and amplify your experiences. We can work on policy change, ask for systemic change, provide some personal support and will work to connect to you support networks that may already exist. We are happy to meet with you to see how we can help you the best we can!
